Woodfalls - Lover
This route is about 4 1/2 miles. It starts and finishes at the Woodfalls Inn pub, although you can also park in the Village Hall carpark.
Turn left from the Woodfalls in and walk past the playing fields and round the bend. Turn left and follow the road down Whiteshoot Hill towards the Village of Lover. You have Tinneys Firs wood on your left, and a ridge on you right. There's a beautiful old english farm on your right. Enter the village of Lover. Carry on straight over the crossroads into School Road, passing Loosehanger on your right and Besomer Drove on your left. Bare to the right past Lover village hall, then turn right into Black Lane.
Follow Black Lane until you have woodland on your left hand side. Look out for a public footpath on your left hand side which you end via the white kissing gate. Although the path isn't well used, you'll soon find yourself on an ancient track - hidden by fallen leaves but easy to follow because of the enclosure banks on either side. Eventually you'll come to the rear of a house (with an inquistive goat). Follow the path to the left, and through the white kissing gate. Turn left along the Hamptworth Road back towards Lover.
This road takes you through woodland. Eventually you'll pass a marked entrance to Langley Wood Nature Reserve on your right. (Langley Wood is ancient woodland rich in Wildlife including 3 species of woodpecker and 5 species of deer.) Continue a short distance along Hamptworth Road before turning left into Vicarage Road.
At the end of Vicarage Road turn right up Church Hill past the Church. Turn left into Besomer Drove. At the Crossroads, turn right and head back up Whiteshoot towards Woodfalls.
At the top of Whiteshoot turn right and you are back at the start of the route.
